This is a video I created after receiving many positive comments about my aquarium based upon a lackluster picture I posted on a popular networking site. It’s an 60 gallon freshwater tank equipped with a heater, power filter, lights, and an airator on a timer. Many types of fish are in the tank as you can see, ranging from bluegill, 2 types of goldfish, a gromie, a couple algea eaters, a catfish, a tiger oscar, and a few other kinds. If you have any questions about the tank or the set up and/or maintenance of it and/or any other tank, feel free to ask! I may be producing a how-to video demonstrating the successful set up and maintenance of freshwater tanks if people out there contact me here showing a desire for me to do so! Thanks for watching, and don’t fall asleep as I produced the video with the intent of showing how calming and rewarding having an aquarium can be!

Whether its for the calm and soothing ambience looking at aquariums provides, or the thrill of being able to watch a miniature representation of marine life in your room, owning an aquarium works wonders with whomever it has captivated, letting hobbyists an aquariums inner beauty, which remains unseen by the non-enthusiasts. However, actually taking good care of the freshwater aquarium is another different thing altogether. No, its not maintenance, but the basic ideas that surround the hobby and can help you maintain your enthusiasm as bona fide aquarist.

Aquariums must be able to support life
Obviously, I mean, why would anyone have a freshwater aquarium setup in the first place? Aquariums are to be filled with aquatic life, and it is necessary that you prepare the fish tank in order to make it capable of supporting life and keeping its occupants alive. Although it is termed as a miniature underwater ecosystem, an aquarium grossly lacks many elements that an actual ecosystem needs to support life, and at most times, would need outside intervention for fish and plants to continue living. This outside intervention has to be supplied by the aquarist himself or herself.

Water chemistry and general composition plays a key role in this part, as certain substances, like ammonia, grow in an aquarium over time, and you would need several countermeasures (in ammonia, for example, biological filtration) to keep the balance intact. Consistency of the water chemistry is also equally important, because you greatly risk stressing you fish when the water chemistry levels are always fluctuating, especially in the case of the water pH levels of your aquarium.

Aquarium setups need to kept that way
This means that you have to maintain the current elements that are present in your aquarium at maximum efficiency. To ensure that all of these elements are in prime working condition, diligence is required, because even if you know the dangers involved in the misuse of these elements, if you dont understand the grave consequences that you have to face, then you wont be capable of keeping the aquarium healthy.

There are actually many steps required to maintain a working fish tank with all of the fish (and plants, if there are) intact, and doing this at regular intervals can sometimes make even the most diligent person weary. However, should your passion and love for your hobby prevail, then there would probably be no problems with you taking care of the aquarium for a very long time.

Set the aquarium at the best area in the house
Most people would like their aquariums placed in living rooms or in their own personal rooms, which is not necessarily wrong, although there are times when having a freshwater aquarium setup at a certain place cannot is not advisable. Look for areas nearest to a source of water; it is highly recommended that you place an aquarium where there is water nearby, so you can do partial changes, or throw dirty water away in a jiffy.

It should also be near enough to natural or artificial lighting (other than the one inside the tank) and must be near to an outlet for electricity. Getting the tank out of any major corridor or passageway is also important. Now, these things might be obvious, but bear in mind that you have to combine all of these values with the tanks nearness to a source of water for its location to actually be convenient.

Regular cleaning must be performed to maintain the cleanliness of your freshwater aquarium. Your aquarium can accumulate wastes over some period of time. These wastes can be left over foods, dead small fish, dried leaves and others that must be removed to avoid further decay and contamination. Manual cleaning is often practiced but there are techniques and methods which could make your cleaning process easier.

What is Filtration Method?
This is one method of cleaning the aquarium through using filtration media and has 3 types namely; biological, chemical and manual. These 3 types have its distinct procedures of filtering the dirt inside the aquarium.

Biological Filtration
This is the kind of filtration method which uses a special kind of bacteria to convert several substances that can go through with the water. These good serving bacteria will then break down toxic substances found in fish tank into less toxic ones. These harmful and toxic substances are ammonia and nitrites which can bring hazardous effects to living things inside the aquarium if they are not properly removed.

Chemical Filtration
Synthetic substances are mixed with the waste materials to easily flush them out together with the water. Activated carbon is commonly used in chemical filtration making it easily dissolved and flushed out through its filter.

Mechanical Filtration
This type of filtration method involves the use of filtration media to trap solid waste particles in the water. This can be manually done anything that can hold the waste materials can be used here. This is the least costly type of filter and can readily be available when needed. This kind of filter must be replaced in determined time interval.

The filtration process made easier through using filters. There are a number of filters which can be used in any filtration methods you may want to select.

Power Filters
They are the most common type of filters mainly because they are cheap and can be bought almost every local hobby shop you can find. Power filters are easy to install easy to use and maintain that is why many would like to use this filter for most of their filtration needs.

Canister Filters
This filter is not quite easy to maintain and use, though it has bigger cleaning advantage than any filters do. This is heavy duty type of filter exerting much force so that wastes can be flushed out faster. Canister filters are also more expensive thus many would not prefer to use this especially those budget conscious people.

Corner Filters
A corner filter provides the most basic filtration in an aquarium. These are one of the most familiar things a hobbyist acquires when starting to build his first freshwater aquarium set up.

Sponge Filters
This type of filters makes use of a sponge to filtrate organic wastes from your aquarium. Oftentimes they are considered simple, effective and cheap. This type of filter is ideal for water tanks that have small fish or fry as it can absorb almost anything.

Fluidized bed filters
This is a relatively new type of filter today that uses sand in the filtration process. This is highly efficient biological filter which make sand as the filter media. The sand will slowly moves the bacteria as it moves outside the filter.

It is important to know and search on this information about filtration method and the different types of filters so that it will be easier to clean the aquarium since proper filtration system handles maintaining the cleanliness inside your freshwater aquarium. Basically these information that has just been presented can give a more positive result in your freshwater aquarium keeping.

Fish tank is obviously the next must have thing when you are into freshwater aquarium keeping type of hobby. You might think of having a lot of things in mind but remember to be resourceful when buying for first fish tank. Freshwater aquarium fish tank can come in a wide array of choices, size and shapes. Prices of fish tank vary according to its general specifications. Which would you like to prefer? There must be somebody who can guide you how to properly select your fish tank especially when you are still very new in this kind of hobby. Try to ask help from some of those you knew who purchased fish tank before so that you can have an over all idea what it takes to buy one. For you to get started and give you some idea here are some of the basic information to guide you.

Choice of Size
Generally speaking big size means big investment and many hobbyist strongly suggest of using a large fish tank especially if you just starting to have one. More materials needed to assemble a large tank, more labor cost and overhead also is invested to make a large fish tank consequently bigger tank is more expensive than the smaller ones.

Recycle old reusable tanks
Since it you knew already that brand new larger tanks are more expensive it is then wiser to become resourceful this time. To become resourceful is to look for an old tank that can be reuse in good condition. Good idea also to ask help from friends and hobbyists who has idle tanks in their storage area. You may even drop by at a local aquarium shop and inquire if there are second hand fish tank for sale. Normally second hand types are cheaper in prize with identical features from the new ones. Ask for referrals to people you know who has fresh water aquarium and is not interested of doing the hobby anymore they might be interested of selling their fish tank to you at a lower cost. In these ways you can save money utilizing old tanks than buying new tank.

Beware of Thin Tanks
A larger tank can give you much advantage when you are just starting to have your own fish tank but always check on its quality as to the kind of material composition, thickness and the general look. There are tanks that look sturdy and yet they tend to break easily because the tank is thin in reality. Though this is not happening always but just be careful all the time. Always do spot check on the item before purchasing it. Brittle tank poses danger to your aquarium you’ll never know when it cracks unknowingly fish will come out and will eventually die. So never let this happen to your aquarium.

More Expensive Means Quality Material
Though there are fish tank that are more expensive than the rest but have you wondered why it is expensive? Take a look at its features and width and its total composition. Most expensive tanks are those acrylic types, durability wise it’s tough and sturdy and won’t easily break in comparing to glass tanks which are susceptible to breakage easily. Large acrylic tank is the best type of fish tank a neophyte hobbyist should have. Look for quality not just consider the price alone because a quality fish tank can last for a long time thereby still giving you much advantage as to buying cheaper kind every 3 months or so. Therefore make a wise decision in very opportunity moment especially when you buy any aquarium accessories.

When obtaining an aquarium built corresponding to your criteria, you will need to decide what will be featured in the aquarium. The aquarium design professionals will collaborate with architects and designers you can sell organic the best saltwater fish tanks, but the final decision on what to keep in your saltwater fish tank will be yours. So, what’s the better selection for saltwater custom fish tanks-fish or reef? Let’s take a look at both of these selections.

Fish Tanks

There are several types of fish which might be kept as a group in ‘fish only’ saltwater custom fish tanks and valued up close or from across the house. Angel and butterfly fish are two eye-catching fish types with particular personas that will build within this aquatic environment. The fish depend on you for their nutrition, therefore, they become very sociable with you, and as they get a lot more relaxed, also you can hand feed most of them. Other benefits of a fish only aquarium include easy upkeep, less costs, and greater visibility. It is far from possible to keep these awesome animals in a reef setting.

Reef Tanks

Saltwater fish tanks of this form give an opportunity to see some of nature’s most splendid sights. They contain colorful corals, vibrant clams, anemones, colored shrimps and crawling crabs. A reef tank with all its marine existence is best viewed close up; everyone fish that be suitable for reef surroundings are small in size, so that it is harder to view them from across the area; close up, however, you should have an entire ecosystem when in front of your eyes. Busy little crustaceans crawling along the rocks and invertebrates that seem to wave around with the water currents are a sight to watch. This freshwater aquarium guide will help you understand what the secrets are to buying these aquariums:

Choose the size of the aquarium correctly. This will decide how many and what size of fish you can keep. If you are starting out with an aquarium when you need to get a large sized one. This is a recommendation in the fresh water aquarium guide. It will be a bit more expensive since you need more materials for assembling this and maintaining it, but if you are hobbyist then it is worth it.

Another thing you can do is use the old tanks. You can find different ways of reusing the freshwater aquarium tanks in different fresh water aquarium books. If you see that buying a new tank is becoming extremely expensive for you, then you can simply go for the second hand ones. After reduce, reuse and recycle. You will find a lot of different old tanks which are actually in very good condition. you can even ask people if they can give referrals for these tanks.

Make sure that when you buy a tank you don’t get a thin one. When you read freshwater aquarium guide you will see them asking to you prevent yourself from getting these. These thin tanks look like they are very sturdy but then they will crack extremely easily. So try and avoid these or else you will be wasting your money on them. Now they don’t always crack but then they have a tendency to, so the best thing would be not to take the risk.

People think that if they are economical with the fish tanks then they can get away with it. But you have to keep in mind that the more money you pay for the materials the better they will be. So don’t save out on money and put your fish in risk. If you can’t afford something huge, buy something smaller and save out on the money but then buy the rest.
